An Estimated 42 Foster Grandparent Volunteers Will Serve. of This Number, 40 Foster Grandparents Will Be Placed in Outcome Assignments. the Volunteers Will Be Working One-on-one With Economically Disadvantaged Children or Children With Special And/or Exceptional Needs. They Will Participate in Activities Which Include, But Are Not Limited to: Pre-school Learning Activities, Teaching Language Skills, Reading to Children, Assisting With Make-up Work, Academic Drill Work, Listening to Children Read, Assisting With Remedial Reading, and Providing Comfort and Support. These Activities Will Be Provided Through a Network of Approximately Eleven Volunteer Sites. These Sites Are Comprised of Elementary Schools, Early Head Start/head Start Centers and Non-profit Daycare Centers Throughout York City and County. at the End of the Three-year Grant, It Is Anticipated That the Children Will Improve: Academic Skills Such as Reading, Writing and Spelling; Social and Interpersonal Skills; Self-esteem and Self-confidence; Speech and Language Skills; Group and Classroom Behavior; Pre-academic Skills and School Readiness. the CNCS Investment of $240,854 Will Be Supplemented by $26,760 in Local Support.
