Butler County Department on Aging (BCDOA) Is a County Government Department Charged With Serving Senior Citizens Age 60+. Its Mission Is to Link Older Adults With the Services They Need to Ensure a Continuum of Care. Studies Have Shown That When Seniors Volunteer It Improves Their Health. the Dept. on Aging (DOA) Sponsors the Butler County RSVP and Foster Grandparent Projects as Another Extension of Serving Seniors by Providing the Opportunity for Them to Volunteer. Further, the Volunteers Serve in the Community Providing Yet Another Link Between the Department on Aging and Butler County. According to the Generations United, I Need You, You Need Me: the Young, the Old, and What We Can Achieve Together, 2017 Executive Summary; Children and Youth Benefit From Building Relationships With Elders in Their Communities. in Fact, Most ADULTS?78 Percent?believe the Federal Government Should Invest in Programs That Bring Together Young and Old Americans. and 77 Percent of Adults Wish There Were More Opportunities in Their Own Community for People From Different Age Groups to Meet and Get to Know One Another. an Estimated 42 FGP Volunteers Will Serve in a Six County Area in South Central Kansas Including: Butler, Cowley, Elk, Harvey, Marion, and Reno Counties. of This Number 42 Foster Grandparents Will Be Placed in Outcome Assignments. Some of Their Activities Will Include School Readiness, Assisting in Classrooms, K-12 Success, Comforting Children and Caring for Infants. the Primary Focus Area of This Project Is Education. at the End of the Three-year Grant, Students Tutored Will Have Improved Their Academic Performance in Literacy And/or Math. the CNCS Federal Investment of $231,438.00 Will Be Supplemented by $32,868 in Local Match. Studies Show That Children Between the Ages of Three and Five Who Exhibit Developmental Delays or Special Needs Are Less Likely to Be Ready to Enter Kindergarten. Further, Kansas Schools Are Facing Increasing Demands on Decreasing Budgets. Grandparents Will Be Utilized So That No Student Falls Through the Cracks. Measurement Tools, Spelled Out Further in Each Proposed Work Plan Will Show That Children Will Demonstrate Gains in School Readiness in Terms of Social And/or Emotional Development. and Students That Completed Participation in CNCS ?supported K-12 Education Programs Will Have Improved Academic Performance in Literacy And/or Math.
