An Estimated 70 Unduplicated Foster Grandparent (FGP) Volunteers Will Serve, All in Outcome Assignments. Service Activities Will Include Assisting in Classrooms and Tutoring. the Primary Focus Area of This Project Is Education, With Objectives of School Readiness Primarily in Richland County. at the End of the Three-year Grant, 350 Children Will Complete a Cncs-supported Education Program and Will Report on Gains in School Readiness in Terms of Literacy. This Will Include 20 Children in Local Head Start Programs and Daycares. the CNCS Investment of $306,056.00 Will Be Supplemented by $67,522 ($50,697 in Match Plus $16,825 in Excess). Senior Resources, Incorporated (sri), the Legal Applicant, Is a Well-established Non-profit Organization, Established and Active in the SC Midlands Community Since 1967. FGP Began in Columbia in 1967 and Since Has Been Sponsored by Senior Resources Since 1984. the Mission of Senior Resources Is to Provide Coordinated Services, Resources and Personal Choices to Promote Healthy, Independent Living Through the Support of Staff and Volunteers. the Aarp Foundation (july 2014) States That a Purpose in Life Can Prevent Isolation Among Seniors and Volunteering Is a Great Way to Make a Difference and Bring Meaning Back to Life. FGP of the Midlands Is Also Uniquely Positioned and Qualified Due to Being Housed in an Organization That Offers Comprehensive Programs and Services Along With Established Relationships With Existing Aging Service Providers, State and Local Offices on Aging, and Current Volunteer Stations.
