Greene Lamp Community Action, a 501 (C)3 Nonprofit, Incorporated in 1965 Is Respectfully Submitting Application for the Foster Grandparents Program to Serve Greene and Lenoir Counties. the Foster Grandparent Program, Which Began in Lenoir and Greene Counties in 1972, Provides Loving and Experienced Tutors and Mentors to Children and Youth With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Our Foster Grandparent Volunteers Will Provide One-on-one Interaction and Serve Between 20 and 40 Hours a Week to Offer Effective Services to Our Volunteers, Volunteer Stations, and the Individuals and Children Being Served. From the Initial Date to the Present Time, Approximately Five Hundred Volunteers Have Served in Greene and Lenoir Counties Totaling Over 3 Million Hours. This Fiscal Year Greene Lamp Is Requesting 53 Volunteers and the Amount of $246,679. the Service Categories Our Project Will Address Are Serving People With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Human Needs, Juvenile Justice, Head Start, Literacy and Mentoring. Our Foster Grandparent Volunteers Will Provide Much Needed Support at Five Volunteer Stations, Including Caswell Developmental Center, Greene Lamp Head Start/ Early Head Start, Dobbs Youth Development Center, NC Pre-kindergarten, and Kennedy Home, an NC Baptist Children's Home. at Caswell Developmental Center, the Foster Grandparents Will Provide Social Opportunities and Develop Strong Personal Relationships With the Individuals Who Make the Center Their Home, They Will Assist Children With Special Needs and Individual Education Plans (IEP) at Head Start Centers, and at NC Pre-kindergarten Centers in the Community, and Will Provide Mentoring and Support to Adjudicated Youth at Dobbs Youth Development Center. at Kennedy Home, Grandparents Will Assist With Schoolwork, and Interact and Care for Individuals From Abused, and Neglected Backgrounds. Each Individual Will Have a Work Assignment Plan and We Will Encourage the Foster Grandparents to Strive to Get the Most Out of Their Time With Their Individuals and Positive Results at the End of Each Grant Year.
