Chickaloon Native Village (chickaloon) Is a Federally Recognized Tribe Located in Matanuska-susitna Borough in Alaska. Chickaloons Jurisdiction Area Is 5,957 Square Miles. the Tribes Internal and External Partners Are Committed to Exercising STCJ to Ensure That Victims Find Safety and Justice and That Non-indians Who Commit Covered Crimes Within Their Jurisdiction Are Held Accountable. the Chickaloon Tribal Police Department Will Lead This Newstcj Project and the Project Partners Within Chickaloon Village Traditional Council Departments Will Engage in Activities Focused on: 1. Strengthening All Facets of the Tribal Criminal Justice Systems in Order to Exercisespecial Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction; 2.PROVIDINGINDIGENT Criminal Defendants With Licensed Defense Counsel in Criminal Proceedings; 3. Ensuringthatdue Process Is Followed in All Criminal Prosecutions; and 4.SAFEGUARDING Victims Rights Consistent With Tribal Customary Laws. Specific Activities Include, But Are Not Limited to: Recruiting and Hiring a Project Coordinator; Meeting With State and Federal Entities; Completing the Required Planning Period to Engage Required and Key Partners in a Planning Process and Memorandum of Understanding Development; Participating in the Inter-tribal Technical Assistance Working Group (ITWG) on STCJ; Participating in On-site and Other Training and Technical Assistance Opportunities; and Seeking Attorney General Designation Under the Alaska Pilot Program Prior to Using Grant Funds to Support Incarceration or Prosecution Activities. the Timing for Performance of This Award Is 60 Months.
