Platte Canyon School District Lies in the Heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We Are a Rural District That Services Approximatley 800 Students Pre-k Through 12. Like a Growing Number of Other Districts Across the United States, We Are Survivors of a School Shooting. in September of 2006 an Armed Gunman Entered Our High School Holding an English Class Hostage. Ultimately, the Life of One Female Student Was Lost. During That Incident, We Were Fortunate Enough to Have the Significant Presence of Our Fire and Sherriff's Office on Hand. Since That Time We Have Continued to Keep Tight Relations With Each Entity. Our Proposal for the 2023 Cops School Violence Prevention Program, Is to Update Our Antiquated Camera Systemthat Was Dontated to Us After Our 2006 Tragedy. We Intented to Replace and Exand Our Camera System Throughout the District, Incorporating Vape Detectors, Gun Shot Detectors and a System That Will Allow Both Fire and Sherriff Personnel Remote Access to Better Respond and Plan in the Case of an Emergency. This System, Designed by Multicard, Would Include Cameras in Our Buildings, Our Parking Lots, and Entryways Equiped With View Lite Ii Mobile Technology and the Ability to Have Two-way Audio, Easy-to-use Smart Search, and Edge-based Video Analytic Reporting. Additionally, We Will Enclose the 16 Pod Classrooms That Were Designed With the Open-concept of Flow Between Classrooms and Open Spaces. Closing in These Classrooms With Walls, Doors, and Sidelight Windows Will Increase Safety and Security for All Students in Each of Those Classrooms. They Will No Longer Be Accessible by Simple Access to the Pods. Not Only Are We in Need of an Up-to-date, Cohesive System, We Are Also in Need of Expanding Our Converage Areas. Our Middle School, High School, and District Office Are Located Along a Major Us Higway. Us Highway 285 Has Seen a Significant Increase in Traffic Over the Past Several Years, Causing an Increased Concern for Safety in Our Student, Staff, and Pool Parking Areas. We Are Intending to Increase Our Ability to Monitor These Areas With Added Cameras as Part of Our Saftey Improvement Plan.
