The Dearborn Police Department Seeks Funding to Continue Its Efforts to Better Embed Itself in the Community It Serves. Law Enforcement Agencies That Prioritize Efforts to Earn the Publics Trust and Cooperation Are More Effective at Protecting Both the Community They Serve and the Officers They Employ (goffords.org, 2020). One of the Most Pressing Needs That the Department Faces Is for Additional Training for Responding Officers to Better Serve the Community. Officers Receive Mandatory Training in Use of Force (8 Hours), Racial/ethnic Bias (4 Hours), and Community Engagement (2 Hours). Identified Gaps in Training Are Largely Interpersonal in Nature, Including Interacting With Folks Who Have Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Verbal De-escalation.
