Description:this Action Approves an Award in the Amount of $1,000,000 to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Health to Implement Its Own Project to Address Private Well Contamination in Sampson County, North Carolina. It Will Provide Water Treatment for at Least 175 Private Wells Per Year in Sampson County While Helping Residents Understand What Pollutants May Be in Their Water and the Importance of Clean Water for Health.activities:the Activities to Be Performed Include: Conducting Outreach to Inform the Community About the Project; Conducting Water Sampling and Testing; Developing an Outreach Plan for Providing Treatment for Wells With Contaminants That Exceed Ncdhhs Guidelines; Finalizing and Validating Treatment Technologies; Reviewing Existing Ncdhhs Private Well Materials and Determine If Additional Materials Are Needed and Offering Translation of Educational Materials.subrecipient:their Activities Include: Implementing Outreach and Recruitment Campaigns; Conducting Water Sampling and Testing; Developing Outreach Plans for Providing Treatment for Wells With Contaminants That Exceed Ncdhhs Guidelines; Finalize and Validate Treatment Technologies to Be Used; Review Existing Ncdhhs Private Well Materials and Determine If Additional Materials Are Needed and Translate Education Materials.outcomes:the Deliverables Include: Developing Additional Health Education Materials About Private Well Contaminants and Treatment; Conducting Train-the-trainer Well Water Maintenance Sessions; Developing and Implementing Training on Selected Treatment Technologies; Developing Pre and Post Workshop Surveys; Conducting Well Water Protection Workshops in English and in Spanish; Developing a Notification Website and Conducting Consultations for Elevated Contaminants in Well Water. Other Activities ; Distributing Treatment Systems to Residents Whose Wells Have Exceeded Ncdhhs Guidelines; Developing a Follow Up Plan for Residents Who Receive Treatment Systems to Assess Functionality, Utilization, and Determining Frequency of Follow Up; Conducting the Follow Up With Residents; Developing Project Management Materials and Creating a Monthly Reporting Template Along With a Team Meeting Schedule. the Intended Beneficiaries for This Project Are the Under-resourced, Community-based Organizations Operating in Sampson County, NC.
