Description:the Primary Objectives of This Atka Project Include: Progressive Administrative and Programmatic Capacity Development Will Strengthen the Tribe's Environmental Program; Community Outreach and Education: Explore a Variety of Environmental Topics and Issues With Community Members to Encourage Involvement in Environmental Issues and Projects. Focus on the Priorities in the Tribe's Epa Tribal Environmental Plan (ETEP) and Current Workplan; Continue to Improve Solid/hazardous Waste Management Through Collaboration With Partners, Training for Staff, and Community Outreach and Education; Continue to Expand and Improve the Solid/hazardous Waste Management Program Using Optimal Practices and the Latest Technologies; and Enhance Climate Change Adaptation Planning and Emergency Response Planning/program Development by Collaborating With a Variety of Organizations to Improve Environmental Health and Sustainability.activities:alaska Tribal Conference on Environmental Management and the Alaska Forum on the Environment Conferences Will Be Attended by the Env. Coordinator (EC) and Env. Assistant (ea). the Ea Will Be Trained/supervised by the Ec. Environmental Meetings, Workshops, and Webinars Will Attended by the Ec and Ea. the Environmental Department Will Collaborate With Other Organizations on Waste Management, Climate Change, Emergency Response, and Other Environmental Issues. the Ec Will Review the Epa-tribal Environmental Plan and Update It as Needed. Environmental and Admin Staff and Council Members Will Review/update Policies and Procedures. Local Radio Station Will Distribute Environmental Information to the Community. Collaborate With City of Fort Yukon and Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments to Improve Communications on Environmental Events and Issues. Meet With the School Principal to Schedule Presentations/activities With Students on Protecting the Environment. Create Flyers to Promote Recycling, Disposing of Hazardous Waste, Current Climate Change News, and Air Quality. Ec Will Track and Order Solid/hazardous Waste Supplies, Tools, and Equipment. Ec Will Work With Organizations to Educate the Community on Environmental Protection With Activities Like Community Clean Up. Ea Will Acquire Hazardous Material Handling Certifications. Ec and Ea Will Review/update the Solid Waste Management Plan. Maintain a Reuse Area for Community Members at the Transfer Site by the Old Clinic. Accept Appliances for Backhaul During the Summer Months. Receive Used Oil From Private and Nonprofit Businesses for Reuse via the Waste Oil Burner. Collect Cans From the Community and Local Businesses to Promote Can Recycling. Remove Hazardous Liquids From Vehicles, Household Appliances, Heavy Equipment, Etc. and Stage/prepare for Backhaul. Gather Information on Existing Planning and Assessment Efforts at Both Regional and Local Levels on Climate Change and Adaptation Planning. Form a Local Emergency Planning Committee to Lead on Emergency Response Planning. Work With Elders and Others to Compile Traditional Knowledge of Environmental Conditions. Tribal Newsletter Will Include Information About Climate Change and Environmental Emergency Response. Ec Will Network With Government Entities, Including the City, Catg, TCC, and Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Response to Update the New Emergency Operations Plan.
