Description:this Project Proposes to Reduce Pollution and Improve Water Quality in the Columbia River Basin by Implementing Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPS) and Promoting Citizen Knowledge and Engagement Through Regional Education and Outreach Within the Nez Perce Reservation and Clearwater River Basin. the Project Will Involve Efforts to Reduce Pesticides and Sediment Runoff Found in the Surface and Groundwaters of the Nez Perce Reservation via Policy Changes, Implementation of BMPS, and Promoting Community and Landowner Engagement and Involvement. This Agreement Will Be Funded Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Activities:the Nez Perce Tribe Will Reduce Pollutants Through Evaluating Past Pesticide Monitoring Data, Ground Truthing and Assessing High-priority Sites Through Delineating Relevant Wetlands, Working to Modify Future Tribal Land Lease Agreements to Incorporate BMPS in the Form of Edge-of-field Buffers, Working With Nontribal Landowners in Collaboration With County Soil and Water Conservation, and Mitigating for Pesticide Inputs on Nontribal Land Using Voluntary Vegetative Filter Strip Implementation. the Second Objective Is Conducting Baseline Monitoring for Toxics Throughout the Reservation to Identify Locations for BMP Implementation. Lastly, the Third Objective Will Be to Increase Public Education About Pesticides and Their Pathways Into Waterways Through Community Education and Pesticide Drop-off/collection Events.subrecipient:no Subawards Are Included in This Assistance Agreement.outcomes:the Anticipated Deliverables of This Project Include Identification of High-risk Tribal Agricultural Lease Properties, Modified Lease Agreements to Accommodate Vegetated Filter Strip Implementation, Implemented Vegetated Filter Strips and Wetland Replanting on Tribal and Nontribal Properties Within the Reservation, Baseline Monitoring Data for Pesticides in Waterways, Pesticide Disposal, Community Outreach Through Events and Multimedia Products, as Well as Quarterly Check-ins, Semi-annual Reports, and a Final Report. the Intended Beneficiaries Are the Nez Perce Tribe, Non-tribal Farm Owners, and the Greater Columbia River Basin.
