This Agreement Contains Activities That Complement Existing Environmental Program Grants. Specifically the Recipient Will Use This Multipurpose Funding to Evaluate the Fate of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Microcosms Mimicking Texas Aquifers in Rural Regions. the Intended Beneficiaries Are the Citizens of Rural West Texas Who Are Needing More Reliable Drinking Water and Drinking Water Sources. Groundwater Accounts for ~60 Percent of Water Used in Texas, and Estimates of Future Groundwater Availability Strongly Depend on Groundwater Quality (reedy and Scanlon, 2012. Groundwater Quality in West Texas Is Greatly Impacted by Geologic Sources, and These Waters Are Typically Characterized as Hard, High in Total Dissolved Solids, and Alkaline (PH >8.0). Although Sulfur Is Most Pronounced in Waters Within the Permian Basin, Mineral and Dissolved Sulfur Species Are Ubiquitous Throughout Western Texas and Are Frequently Detected at MM Concentrations, Which Are Atypically
