Description:this Project Will Provide Technical Assistance (e.g., Information, Training, Tools) to Businesses to Help Them Develop and Adopt Source Reduction Practices (also Known as Pollution Prevention (P2)). P2 Means Reducing or Eliminating Pollutants From Entering Any Waste Stream or Otherwise Being Released Into the Environment Prior to Recycling, Treatment, or Disposal. P2 Practices Can Help Businesses Save Money by Reducing Their Resource Use, Expenditures, Waste and Liability Costs, While at the Same Time Reducing Their Environmental Footprint and Helping to Protect Human Health and the Environment. Specifically, the Project Has Partnered With Montana Extension Center to Provide Support to the Food and Beverage Manufacturing Industry Through Their P2 Internship Program. Msu Student Interns Will Provide Businesses With P2 Best Practices and Will Gain Valuable, Real-world Experience in Implementing P2 Principles and Applying Their Food System and Science/engineering Knowledge to Minimize Environmental Impacts. Interns Work Closely With an MSU/MTP2 Internship Advisor in Addition to a Technical Advisor From Mmec and an Onsite Advisor From Their Business to Help Identify Areas Where the Facilities Can Apply Source Reduction Practices to Reduce Pollution. the P2 Internship Program Provides Technical Assistance to Montana Businesses Seeking to Identify and Implement P2 Practices That Will Result in Decreased Energy Use, Water Use, CO2 Emissions, Waste Generation, and Hazardous Chemical Use.activities:the Priorities for P2 Technical Assistance (information, Training, and Tools) Align With One or More of the Program's National Emphasis Areas (neas). Specifically, the Project(s) Activities Will Address the Following: Students Are Connected to Montana Manufacturing Businesses (at Least 75% Food and Beverage), Providing Valuable Real-world Experience in Implementing P2 Principles While Minimizing Environmental Impacts. Qualified Students Will Apply and Interview With MTP2 for Internship. MTP2 Will Select the Student Interns, Perform Reference Checks and Notify Students of Outcome. Chosen Students Must Accept Program Goals and Agree to Perimeters of Internship. Outputs/action Items: - Receive/review Student Applications, - Select Interns and Match With Appropriate Business - Send Out Training Invitations and Agenda. - Confirm Training Attendees and Presenters. - Collect Payroll Info for Interns. Outcomes: - Eight Interns Selected and Matched With Businesses. - Internship Goals Agreed to by Interns and Businesses. - Distribute Binder With Training/payroll Information.subrecipient:marketing Outreach and Advertising for the P2 Internship Program. Outcomes:the Technical Assistance Conducted by the Grantee Will Benefit Facilities and, If Applicable, May Address Underserved Communities. the Recipient Is Expected to Report on P2 Performance Measures (outputs and Outcomes) and Note Who Will Benefit From the Technical Assistance as Well as Commit to Following-up With Facilities to Find Out Whether the Technical Assistance Was Adopted and Implemented. the Anticipated Deliverables Include Placing Approximately 8 Students With Businesses and Will Include an Oral Presentation of Findings to Be Presented in the Internship Final Showcase and a P2 Highlighted Case Study or Success Story of the Business to Be Shared With the Epa. Students and Businesses Will Define Scope of Work and P2 Metrics Being Measured, Including at Least One Epa Priority Metric Acs 262-264 or 297(I.E. Gallons of Water Conserved, MTCO2E Reduced, Pounds of Hazardous Waste Eliminated And/or Dollars Saved Through P2 Efforts) Per Business. Epa Reporting Mechanisms and Methodologies (ie. Epa Calculator, P2 Reporting Template; Activity Logs) Will Assist Businesses/students in Capturing These P2 Metrics to Obtain Relevant Data for Case Studies and Reports.
