Communications with the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and federal executive branch officials on behalf of Dr. Jose M. Wiley, MD, MPH, FACC, FSCAI, regarding federal health policy priorities and federal health agency matters. During the reporting period, the registrants lobbying on behalf of the client included an in-person meeting with Speaker Mike Johnson addressing the consolidation of chronic-disease policy across the House Republican Conference, Louisianas cardiometabolic and chronic-disease burden, reform of the federal health research enterprise, programs and priorities within the jurisdiction of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and Dr. Wileys potential service in a senior federal health leadership capacity. The registrants lobbying further included a meeting with National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya regarding the mission and reform of the NIH, cardiovascular and chronic-disease research priorities, programs within the jurisdiction of NHLBI, and Dr. Wileys potential service in a senior federal health leadership capacity; communications with an official at the Department of Health and Human Services, Nick Bell, who conveyed the clients interest to Director Bhattacharya, regarding federal health policy priorities, agency-liaison coordination, and the potential positioning of Dr. Wiley for federal health engagement; and communication with an official within the Executive Office of the President, John Jaggers, regarding federal health policy priorities and Dr. Wileys potential contribution to federal health policy deliberations. Policy discussions addressed chronic-disease prevention, cardiovascular health, metabolic health, nutrition and food policy, military medical readiness, and federal health agency reform and appropriations. The engagement is framed around Dr. Wileys clinical expertise as a cardiologist, his academic and health-system leadership, and his service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, positioning his experience as a resource for federal health policymakers pursuing the priorities reflected in the administrations health reform agenda. No substantive meeting or advocacy regarding a specific Senate-confirmed position occurred during the reporting period.
