H.R. 1840/S. 814, the Expanding Access to Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) Act. The Association supports this legislation to reduce barriers and increase the utilization of DSMT, which is a covered benefit under Medicare. (Lobbyists Used: Meghan Riley, Robert Goldsmith) S. 2199/H.R. 4906, The Insulin Price Reduction Act. The ADA supports this legislation which encourages lower insulin prices. (Lobbyists used: Meghan Riley, Rob Goldsmith) H.R. 2279, the Safe Step Act. The ADA supports this legislation which would require group health plans to provide an exceptions process for any medication step therapy protocol. (Lobbyists used: Meghan Riley, Rob Goldsmith) HR 4457, the Chronic Copay Elimination Act. The ADA supports this legislation which will require private health plans to cover preventive services, including screenings and certain medications, with no cost-sharing for people with chronic conditions such as diabetes. (Lobbyists used: Meghan Riley, Rob Goldsmith) HR 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act. This bill would require the HHS Secretary to negotiate prices for certain drugs including insulin. The ADA has not endorsed this legislation but does support specific provisions of this bill. (Lobbyists used: Rob Goldsmith, Meghan Riley) S. 2543, the Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act. This bill aims to lower the cost of prescription drugs in the Medicare and Medicaid programs and to improve drug pricing transparency. The ADA has not endorsed this legislation but does support specific provisions of this bill. (Lobbyists used: Rob Goldsmith, Meghan Riley) S. 3544, Coronavirus Relief for Seniors and People with Disabilities Act: The ADA supports this legislation which would address critical health and economic needs for older adults, people with disabilities, front-line workers and family caregivers. (Lobbyists used: Rob Goldsmith, Meghan Riley) Issues worked on not yet reflected in legislation: Protecting and strengthening the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Association supports continued efforts to strengthen and improve the ACA which ensures access to affordable health coverage for people with diabetes. The Association supports efforts to make CDC-recognized virtual diabetes prevention program (DPP) providers eligible for reimbursement in MDPP. (Lobbyists used: Rob Goldsmith, Meghan Riley) Child Nutrition Reauthorization. The Association supports protecting many programs (Summer Meals, School Breakfast Program, WIC) that are a part of the Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act, which was last reauthorized in 2010.
