Veterans

Lobbying in support of improved health care and benefits service for post-9/11 wounded, ill, and injured veterans including: the Major Richard Star Act (H.R. 1282, S. 344), to provide concurrent receipt to military medical retirees with combat-related injuries; the Servicemembers and Veterans Empowerment and Support Act of 2021 (S. 2102/H.R. 4571), to expand health care and benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs for military sexual trauma; the Elizabeth Dole Home and Community Based Services for Veterans and Caregivers Act (H.R. 6823), to provide better coordination of and access to VA long term care programs for disabled veterans; the Wounded Warrior Access Act (H.R. 1226), to allow for the electronic request of certain veterans records; the Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act of 2023 (S. 462), to amend the Public Health Service Act to modify the loan repayment program for the substance use disorder treatment workforce to relieve workforce shortages; the VA Clinician Appreciation, Recruitment, Education, Expansion, and Retention Support (CAREERS) Act of 2023 (S. 10), to improve the workforce of the Department of Veterans Affairs; the Not Just a Number Act (S. 928), to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to prepare an annual report on suicide prevention; the Air Carrier Access Amendments Act of 2023 (H.R. 1267, S. 545), to protect the rights of passengers with disabilities in air transportation; the Healthy Foundations for Homeless Veterans Act (H.R. 645), to permanently authorize the use of certain funds to improve flexibility in the provision of assistance to homeless veterans; the Veterans COLA Act of 2023 (H.R. 1529, S. 777), to increase, effective as of December 1, 2023, the rates of compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities and the rates of dependency and indemnity compensation for the survivors of certain disabled veterans; the GUARD VA Benefits Act (H.R. 1139), to reinstate penalties for persons charging veterans unauthorized fees relating to claims for VA benefits; and the Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act (H.R. 984, S. 106), to increase federal support to county veteran service officers.
