Energy Tax Legislation - H.R. 6049 by Ways & Means Chairman Rangel [D-NY] is a tax extenders bill, incluing extension of expiring or expired energy taxes. The version passed by the House was fully paid for with offsets. The version later passed by the Senate was not fully paid for, and the Republican Senate minority opposes offsets to pay for existing tax laws. As this reporting period ended, the energy tax extenders, an AMT patch and the so-called bailout package were put into HR 1424, an amendment in a substitute nature.
